Before our trip begins, the background....
Over twenty-six years ago this Southern California girl was taken to a place she never thought she would go, the Midwest. Career change took Greg and I to West Michigan. I was pregnant with our first of three Michigander girls. We found West Michigan beautiful, HOT in the summer of 1988, friendly, but very hard to break into with all the generations of family relationships.
Fast forward 26 years, 3 houses, 3 daughters, 7 goats, 3 cats, 2 1/2 dogs-Nickel is only partly ours as he belongs to Nicole- and many sweet and deep friendships later, we find ourselves moving back to Southern California.
The myriad of emotions has gone from, "pfffft, you have got to be kidding", to abject terror, excitement, sadness and release. It still seems rather surreal. Greg has been in San Diego since the end of June, I have been in Michigan closing up our home, which sold in 24 hours, and preparing for our cross country trip.
On August 27th, 2015 we said goodbye to the home we built at 12277 Darby Rd, Clarksville, Michigan. We tearfully turned over the care of our sweet goaties and our precious Pumpkin to others as we could not take them with us. We said "see you later" to friends who have become our family and climbed aboard our rented Hyundai, Sonata, packed to the brim and Nicci, Shelli and I set off on our Funky Monkey Road Trip.
